Gajin Gyaru: Secondhand Forums

Hello!

I made a post about online stores that stock gyaru-like clothes, and now I am writing another one about something that I have been using to grab onto some cheaper gyaru clothing, and that's forums!

One that I have been using a lot very recently is GYARU Community Sales. It's definitely a different way to shop, but a great way since it seems more real, if that's a way to describe it. You know, since with most sites you rely on just a stock photo of the product and the description of it, but with sites or forums like these, the photos you look at were taken by the seller personally.

The sellers are quite reliable in my experience since they communicate well and provide photos and tracking. It's also great because a lot of these sellers are westerners, which can give you an idea of the size and measurements of the clothes and whether it would be suitable for you.

I'm not sure if there are many forums out there such as this one, but it does lead me and a lot of other buyers to consider different ways of purchasing clothing.

Have you got any experience with forums? Were they good or bad?

Gaijin Gyaru: Judging the Correct Length

Hello, everyone!

Since I've been making some recent purchases on different sites of Liz Lisa and other Asian brands, I thought I'd write this post to help and give some tips in judging what kind of size would fit or be appropriate for you.

A common question my mum asks me when she finds outs that I bought a particular item of clothing online is: "How do you know what size to buy?"At first, I was quite lazy with sizing and went with my gut feeling since I know my upper body fits medium sizes quite well, and normally chose that for tops. But, that's not very reliable. Don't do that :')

Especially remember: Clothing brands from other countries might have very different sizes that what your are familiar with. Especially, ones from Asia, as it tends to be a lot smaller.

Recent Purchase: VIXX Hoodie

Hello, everybody!

Recently I bought a sweater to show my love for one of my favourite KPOP groups, VIXX! Just thought I would do a quick review in case everyone is thinking of buying something like this~

I bought the sweater off of eBay, from the user koreapopfan:

I got a bit excited and took it out of the packaging as soon as I got it, haha. It was neatly folded inside a plastic packet and that was inside a hard paper package:

It was such nice quality and very clean! If that counts towards anything, you never know with Internet purchases!

I always wash new clothing before I wear it, but I made the mistake of putting this jumper in the wash instead of hand washing it. What was even worse is that my dad put the clothes through several washes because he accidentally put detergent in it. Why is that bad? Well, the letters and logo on the jumper started to peel a little and crinkle - I was so sad! I haven't had a chance to wear it and I was already in a position where I thought I might need to buy a new one.

Luckily, it wasn't so bad, still wearable. I just need to find a way to flatten the lettering and make it neat again, but it's still disappointing. First and last time I put clothes like this in the wash.

You'll see my face one day, I promise, haha.

Remember to be careful when washing your clothes guys! Especially stuff that is handmade or ordered online.

Despite that, I still really love it. I wore it when I stayed over a friend's house with a group of people and even though most of them didn't know VIXX, they said they loved it (and despite it being ruined by the washing machine as well) and one of them even recognised the group! Music brings people together, haha~

If you're looking for a KPOP merchandise seller on eBay, I recommend you try koreapopfan!

Gaijin Gyaru: What to Look For When Shopping in Any Store

Hello, friends!

I know for sure how difficult it is to easily access fashion from other countries, such as gyaru clothing from Japan. Sometimes, we have to compromise and make do with what we have access to. I think there is always a chance of finding clothes that match the style you want.

Depending on the style of gyaru you are looking for, you can always find items that fit that style and build a collection from which you can pick from and use to layer on top of one another. Starting from basic clothing items, layering, is a good start.

Looking at some photos for inspiration - it's very easy to build a gyaru style from clothes you would find in any store. I find blacks, whites and pinks to be very common. Again, depending on the type of gyaru you are going for, you would be looking for statement pieces that are quite fitting. Or, if you're looking for the more hime or girly gyaru style, you would be incorporating a lot of lace, frills, flouncy fabric and floral patterns.

I think something important that can help sway your fashion style is accessories. As I said before, you can find some basic clothing pieces and then layer more clothing and choose socks, shoes and jewellery to compliment your outfit and make it complete. I mean false lashes, socks and fake nails are also found here, right? Makeup plays a huge part as well.

This post is a bit of a trainwreck, but I'm writing this post just to say that, if you have a set style in your mind and know the clothes you want for it, you can look for it in stores and begin building your dream wardrobe! Good luck!

Sheinside Review: Black Rose Print Flare Skirt

Hi, everyone!

After ordering the Apricot Rose Print Flare Skirt, and loved it (see my review here), I thought I had to get it's monochrome equivalent, the Black Rose Print Flare Skirt!

Black Rose Print Flare Skirt

Size I ordered: Medium

Measurements: Length (46 cm) Waist (76 cm)

I decided to order the black one as well since, well, black goes with everything, and I thought it would be perfect for circumstances where you need to look professional and classy. I wore my apricot skirt to interviews and felt that a black one would have been more suitable.

Quality: I was actually surprised when I grabbed the skirt out of its packet that it was so smooth and shiny. I don't remember having that reaction with the previous skirt, maybe because this one is a dark colour so it might be more noticeable?

But, yes, this skirt again is fantastic! Since it was shipped in a packet and the material is stiff (to give it flare), it did come crumpled, but I expected that. Nothing a bit of ironing can't fix! I was going to wash it before wearing it anyway.

Overall: I am very happy with this skirt! It's a good length with plenty of flare and the material is of good quality and is so pretty. It might need ironing after each wash, but it's worth it. I give it a 5/5 rating!

Sheinside Review: Navy Strap Flare Denim Skirt

Hello, everyone!

I've been on the hunt for a good suspender skirt for quite some time now, so I decided to give it a shot at Sheinside! At first, I was going to order a different skirt from this one but it was sold out just as I put my order through and had to exchange it for the Navy Strap Flare Denim Skirt, which I didn't mind doing. since it looked better in the pictures.

Navy Strap Flare Denim Skirt:

Size I ordered: Medium

Measurements: Length (87 cm) Waist (66-86 cm) Hips (96 cm)

Sorry, I don't have pictures of how it arrive since my brother opened it up before I got home. But it's much the same as in my previous Sheinside review. The shipping was reasonable, even though I had issues with the order that I stated up the top, this skirt arrived before the other Black Rose Print Skirt I ordered.

QualityI was very much excited to finally get a suspender skirt, but, I feel somewhat disappointed. The style of this skirt wasn't what I expected, I thought it would have more flare and be longer. Maybe it's just because of how it looks on me, but the design just seems a little awkward for something that should a suspender skirt. It's quite tight and short, and only flares at the bottom. Since the title said, flare skirt, I assumed it meant the whole skirt would flare out.

Also, I had to poke a hole through the straps and use the metal clips for the other end when in the photo it gave the impression that both ends of the strap had holes. I was a little confused them, either it's just that or the wrong straps were sent. But, the quality of the material is durable and comfy.

I don't think I will wear it since it just doesn't suit me at all, but maybe that's just me and my body. not the skirt. From the back you can see how I had to yolo the straps.

Overall: I was a bit disappointed with the product and I haven't brought myself to wear it out yet. But the quality of the material was great and I think it would perfectly suit a more petite girl than I am! I would rate it a 2/5, personally.

Update: I ended up giving the skirt away to a younger girl I know since I can't bring myself to wear this :')

Quick Update: Tiny, tiny hiatus/Upcoming posts!

Hello, everyone~

I just wanted to write a quick post to say that, because of this university semester coming to an end soon, I have been pouring a lot of my time into finishing off assignments and studying for exams. So, my posts are coming a bit slowly.

BUT!

I have so many posts coming up! Lots of reviews on beauty products and clothing stores are in the process of being written, so there will be something up in the near future. Keep a look out!

Gaijin Gyaru: Clothes Are Not in Your Size?

Hello, everyone~

I'm adding another post to my series! This one will give a few ideas as to what to when you find some Asian clothes are too small or the wrong size for you. I don't know about you, but I always have trouble finding gyaru clothing that is long enough to wear.

I am in every mindset to just go to Japan just to personally buy the clothing myself and know for sure it's my size, but that's not that easy. I hope to find a reliable store that will sell gyaru clothing suitable for a girl of over 170cm in height!

Until then, we have to manage with what we have, right?

Wear several layers!

I found that for some short dresses or skirts, it can still work if you slip on a skirt underneath. By having one of two skirts/shorts of a neutral tone- like white, grey or black (but with most clothing, you might need a pink or white one) it might make it easier to quickly add an extra layer underneath your clothing.
You could even put some leggings, shorts or bloomers underneath as well.

Dress too short? Wear it as a top!

Gaijin Gyaru Problems #12 - “You’re tall enough to make any ‘dress’ a top.”

Yup, pretty much. Some of taller girls don't have much that we can do about gyaru clothing being too short for our frames - but we can still use it, yes!

Almost like wearing layers, you can use the dress as a cute top instead and wear it over a skirt or jeans!

Sew on another layer/alter the length

Now for this, I am hopeless at trying to alter the length of my clothing, I'm pretty sure I would make it worse. But if you can, or know some who can, why not alter the length of your clothing through sewing? If not, then maybe a professional can do it, but that would come with a cost,

What is your experience with buying clothes online? What do you do if it's not your size? Do you know any stores that sell Asian clothing that is a good fit for western girls? Let me know!

Enjoy life!
